About the Residency
Chino Base Artist in Residence is located at the foot of Mt. Hiei, one of the most sacred and historically spiritual places in Japan.
During your stay, you will have free access to the garden and common spaces of Chino Base, and become part of a warm community of craft artisans and artists.
The program also includes basic interpretation and translation support, helping you connect with the local culture and artisans.
As an option, you may also use the Lumen Field Gallery on the first floor for exhibitions or open studio presentations (additional fee).

Residency Rules
- The building is a renovated traditional house, so sound travels easily. Please be mindful of noise.
- Kindly greet neighbors with a smile and respect the local community.
- Cleaning staff comes twice a week. Residents are expected to keep their rooms and shared spaces clean and tidy in daily life.
